Made for Ridwell in Boulder, Colorado, by Green Guru
Why reuse tire tubes
Around 10 million bicycle inner tubes are thrown away each year in the US. Not only do these discarded tubes take hundreds of years to decompose in landfills, but the production of new tubes uses non-renewable resources, and also contributes to greenhouse gas emissions.
In addition to being upcycled into new inner tubes, bicycle tubes are used to create sustainable bike bags, wallets, travel kits, and belts. Our partner Green Guru has been making durable products out of them since 2005.
How it’s made
We collect tire tubes from the Ridwell community and send it to Green Guru in Boulder, Colorado.
The tire tubes are sorted and prepped to be used again.
The processed materials are sewn into finished products locally.
About the maker
Green Guru is a Boulder-based company run by a team of outdoor enthusiasts, and they’ve been turning old sports equipment into new adventure gear since 2005. Aware that most of the equipment for outdoor pursuits can be destructive to the environment, they decided to manufacture their own products in a more eco-friendly way. By saving valuable materials from landfills, Green Guru promotes “adventure with a good conscience.”
