An incredible six billion pairs of jeans are produced every year and 30% are never worn.
Plus, 20% of the fabric used during production is wasted as scrap. It usually ends up incinerated or in landfills, but Ridwell members won’t stand for that: You saved more than 7500 pounds in July and they’ve become useful pouches.
Made in partnership with Portland, Oregon-based Spooltown, these pouches use denim from Ridwell members. Spooltown received the colorful zippers from a local sewing shop that wanted to avoid sending inventory to the landfill when they closed their doors.
After creating the pouches, Spooltown sent the scrap denim to another Portland company, Looptworks, to be recycled into new fiber.
