Low-stress ways to waste less

Do you think you can actually make a difference in the future of our planet?

We know you can. We’ve seen the power of enough people believing it.

The Ridwell community has kept over 15 million pounds out of the waste stream—so far. If every pound were made up of plastic bags tied end to end, they would stretch to the moon and more than halfway back.

It’s hard to imagine your own effort adding up because you only see the small actions you take, not the whole picture. It’s like a kid growing six inches in a year but not noticing the changes day to day.

Plus, thinking about what to do for the planet when you have a million other things to take care of can be downright overwhelming.

That’s why we’re here to make it easy to recycle more than you can with curbside pickup alone, and to keep doing it consistently over time, connected to other planet-loving people who also do their part.

We’ve got your back with these easy ways to keep hard-to-recycle items out of the landfill.

  1. Finally recycle snack wrappers. We pick up chip bags, granola bar wrappers, and lots of other crinkly plastic packaging in our first-of-its-kind program to recycle multi-layered plastic from home.

  2. Toss shipping materials in a bag. No need to worry about plastic mailers and Styrofoam ending up in the landfill. We’ll collect them and give them a second life.

  3. Give us your holey socks. Whether they can be reused or not, we’ll take clothes, shoes, linens, towels, sheets, fabric scraps, and more as long.

  4. Know exactly what to do with light bulbs. You’re not alone if you’ve been saving old bulbs in a drawer for the day you can figure out how to do the right thing with them. Today’s that day. We’ll take ‘em.

  5. Save up for pickups. Collect your corks, plastic bottle caps, bread tags, and more. You get to choose any pickup to clear out popular items like these.

Remember this, too: Every little bit counts. Wasting less isn’t an all-or-nothing scenario, so choose the habits that work with your lifestyle.

Sound easy enough?
