The Ski Earrings

Created from your retired skis

Millions of skis are disposed of every year and they’re virtually impossible to recycle.

Skis are a recycling challenge because the layers are so well stuck together. While the ski industry is working on sustainable production and material options, creative makers have taken to reimagining skis into new things. We’ve seen benches and chairs, tables, wine racks, firewood holders, lamps—and these fun earrings, which were made using skis from a Denver pickup that supplied more than 400 pairs.

Hand-crafted earrings with unique colors and patterns

The story behind your earrings

Pickup

Skis are super-difficult to recycle, so we picked them up from those of you in snowy cities and sent them to our Denver-based partner, Après Ski.

Production

Heather Mullins of Après Skis prepped your skis and used them to hand craft pairs of her most popular earring, the Powderhound.

Unique style

With each pair of earrings, Heather honors the ski’s design, maintaining the original colors. Your tag will even reveal the ski brand!

Letting materials guide the way

Après Ski

Colorado native Heather Mullins is a Denver based artist, educator, and advocate of hands-on learning and sustainability. In addition to Après Ski, she runs Relevant ReUse, an art, design, and furniture business. She designs based on the existing capabilities of her chosen materials and first started making ski earrings when she saw the potential in scraps left over after making skis into furniture.
