Thanks to your passion for wasting less and recycling more, local governments around the Portland area are exploring adding new items to their municipal curbside recycling services. We’re excited to share that we’ve been informed by Gresham officials that, starting July 1, 2022, batteries will be accepted for recycling by your municipal curbside collection program.

Because Ridwell provides services that are complementary to those already available in the communities in which we operate, we will be removing Batteries as a pickup category for our members in Gresham starting July 1st.

Our mission at Ridwell is to help build a less wasteful future, so we’re supportive of this change and are thrilled to see this step in the right direction.

  • Ridwell provides services that are complementary to those already available in the communities in which we operate, so we will be removing batteries as a pickup category when Gresham municipal recycling service begins collecting them on 7/1/22.

  • You can keep your bag to store batteries between curbside pickups or just toss your empty “Batteries” bag in your “Threads” bag and we’ll take it during your next pickup!

  • We will stop picking up batteries effective 7/1/22 – please recycle your batteries via your municipal curbside recycling!

  • Grab your household batteries, tape over the terminals, place them in a sealed plastic bag, and add them on top of any glass in your glass bin, unless otherwise instructed by your curbside recycling provider.

  • Gresham households can recycle AAA to D size consumer batteries, 9-volt batteries, large “lantern” style batteries (6 volt or 9 volt), button or watch batteries, and rechargeable batteries (NiCad, NiMH, and lithium ion). As always, we recommend placing tape over the ends or “terminals” of the batteries before bagging to prevent fires.
