Seattle and Portland Ridwell members participated in a special pickup in January 2021, collecting 5,200 lbs of fleece, jacket shells, and other outdoor garments for sustainable disposal with Refleece.

Upcycling Process

Collection

Ridwell collected over 5,200 lbs of old and damaged outerwear from nearly 2,000 Seattle and Portland members.
Sorting

Items were sorted for donation or upcycling by Ridwell employees, packaged up and delivered to Refleece.
Die Cutting

Refleece employees used a die cutting machine to maximize the amount of material salvaged per garment.
Zipper Salvage

Refleece employees removed zippers and closures by hand for reuse in new products, including our totes.
Sewn Together

Refleece employees created unique, one-of-a-kind totes and small pouches exclusively for Ridwell members to purchase.
