See how a real member is using Ridwell!

At Ridwell, we work to cultivate a community of passionate individuals who care about making a difference. We’re a true grassroots organization that relies on members to help organically spread the word and champion our mission, and we know how important it is to hear real stories from real members! We spoke with a longtime Seattle member about her experience with Ridwell, how it fits seamlessly into her life and enables her to waste less.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and your background.

My name is Ahava Goldwater. My husband and I live in Southeast Seattle, where I’ve lived since I was four years old. We’re both retired teachers who now spend lots of time with our grandchildren.

How do you Ridwell? Take us through a day in the life of how you use Ridwell to waste less.

After a Ridwell pickup, I bring in our freshly laundered bags (for Plastic Film, Batteries, Lightbulbs, Threads, and a special Featured Category) and neatly stack them near the front door.

I keep a collection bag for Ridwell plastics in my kitchen, next to the paper bags for collecting garbage, recycling, and compost. I sort the plastics at my convenience.

As we start to fill the Ridwell bags, they get staged behind the front door. I also have a big orange bag in a storage closet to hold any styrofoam that comes our way.

Wednesday evening Ridwell sends a reminder email about pickup day and I transfer my bags to the bin on the front porch.

Every other Thursday someone from Ridwell comes to empty it. They’re quiet and efficient, never disturbing us. Shortly after the pickup, I receive confirmation by text. The text also tells me the featured category for next time so I know what to collect.
