Greater Boston Could Get Ridwell Pickups Next

Here’s What That Means

Ridwell is working to make it easier to send less waste to our landfills – and Greater Boston could be next. We’re excited to share that Ridwell is aiming to launch our full doorstep pickup service in the Boston area in 2026, bringing a more convenient way to recycle and reuse everyday items that don’t belong in curbside bins.

Today, Ridwell operates pickup service in major metro areas including the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, Denver/Boulder, Atlanta, and the Twin Cities. In each of these cities, members use Ridwell to responsibly handle hard-to-recycle materials like plastic film, multi-layer packaging, batteries, lightbulbs, styrofoam, and clothing – items that typically end up in landfills.

While pickup service is still on the horizon for Greater Boston, residents across Massachusetts can already get started with Ridwell Mail-in. This nationwide service allows members to fill prepaid bags with hard-to-recycle plastics and ship them back on their own schedule, offering a simple, flexible way to reduce waste today.

Ridwell Pickup, which we hope to bring to Greater Boston later this year, builds on that impact with added convenience. Members receive a bin and reusable bags, set materials out every two weeks, and rely on Ridwell to collect and responsibly process a wide range of items – often with opportunities to donate useful goods to local nonprofits through rotating categories.

As we look ahead to 2026, community interest will play a key role in shaping our launch. If you’re in Greater Boston, joining our Mail-in service and spreading the word can help bring Ridwell Pickup to your neighborhood sooner. Join through this page for 20% off your Mail-in Recycling Starter Kit!
