What is Ridwell Express?

  • You get access to our full slate of categories, 200+ partners to reuse as well as recycle your items, and convenient every-other-week pickups. Ridwell Express lets people anywhere in the US recycle select hard-to-recycle items by mailing them to the nearest Ridwell warehouse on their own schedule.

  • Yes! Ridwell Express can ship to any address in the United States, including areas where regular Ridwell pickup service isn't available.

  • It is! You’ll see us refer to it as Ridwell Express going forward. 

Who should use Ridwell Express?

  • Tell a friend about Ridwell Express if they live outside our current pickup areas. Express is also great for people who live in these areas, but don’t live in single family homes. Their neighborhoods may not be included in doorstep pickup service.

  • Our current pickup areas include neighborhoods in and around Seattle, Portland, San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, Denver, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Austin, and Atlanta. See the full list>

  • If your friends live in a single-family home in our current service areas, they should sign up for regular pickup service. Give them a free month to try it! Express is designed for people in areas we don't yet serve with pickup.

How it works

  • They receive Express bags for multi-layer plastic packaging and plastic film, along with prepaid, net-zero shipping labels to send them back to us for proper recycling. Their starter kit also includes hooks to hang the bags for easy use and a fridge guide to help differentiate the two types of plastics. Additional bags for prescription pill bottles and flat lids/loose plastic caps are available.

  • Yes, shipping is completely included. The bags come with prepaid, net-zero shipping labels—just fill them up and drop them off at any post office or schedule a USPS pickup using the QR code on the bag.

  • Express focuses on plastic film (like grocery bags and bubble wrap) and multi-layer plastic packaging (like chip bags and candy wrappers)—items that curbside recycling programs can't handle. Additionally, bags for pill bottles and flat lids/loose plastic caps can be added on.

Pricing & billing

  • We’ll have a promotional price available for your friends through 8/31 at midnight PT. After 1,000 redemptions of the $10 kit, the offer becomes $10 off the regular starter kit price of $30—still a great deal!

  • There are two possibilities! If your friend chooses automatic refills, subsequent individual bags are $9 each. If they choose to pay as they go, individual refill bags are $12 each. Net-zero shipping is included.

  • It's pay-as-you-go! The $10 kit is a one-time purchase. When your friend is ready for more bags, they can order another set. No subscription required.

  • The person who clicks your link and signs up pays the $10 themselves.

Environmental impact

  • Yes! Recycling this plastic diverts it from landfills and the environment, and avoids production of virgin plastic. Plus, we work with a shipper that guarantees net zero (carbon neutral) shipping.

  • Most municipal recycling programs can't handle multi-layer plastics and plastic film because they jam sorting equipment and contaminate other recyclables. These items typically end up in landfills even when placed in curbside bins.

Getting started

  • How long it takes to fill the bags depends on how much plastic a household uses, but most people find that one set of bags lasts 1-2 months.

  • They receive an email confirmation when we receive the bags, along with an impact report. If they want to continue, they can order more bags anytime through their account.
